How to Use Tap on Phone and Stripe Reader in the Staff App

Summary

Tap on Phone lets gyms collect contactless, in-person payments directly through the PushPress Staff App (Kiosk Mode). It simplifies checkout for memberships, retail, and drop-ins while keeping all revenue inside PushPress.

Note: Tap on Phone is currently supported on Android devices with NFC. Support for iPhone (iOS) is coming soon.

If your device does not support NFC, you can still accept contactless payments using a connected Stripe Terminal.

How to Set Up Tap on Phone

  1. Open the PushPress Staff App.

  2. Go to Settings → Tap on Phone.

  3. Toggle Enable Tap on Phone.

  4. Follow the setup prompts to connect your Stripe account.

  5. Confirm your device is Android with NFC enabled, or connect a Stripe Terminal if needed.

Once setup is complete, Tap on Phone will be available in Kiosk Mode for retail and membership sales.


Using Tap on Phone (Android Devices)

  • Works on Android devices with NFC capability.

  • At checkout, members can pay by tapping their card or mobile wallet against the device.

  • Transactions are processed securely through Stripe and appear instantly in PushPress Core.

Tip: Ensure your device’s NFC setting is turned on before starting a transaction.


Using a Stripe Terminal (Non-NFC Devices)

If your device doesn’t support NFC or you prefer a card reader, connect a Stripe Terminal.

  1. In the Staff App, go to Settings → Tap on Phone → Connect Terminal.

  2. Follow the pairing steps on-screen.

  3. Once connected, you can accept chip, swipe, or contactless payments.

All Stripe Terminal transactions sync automatically with PushPress Core.


Supported Transactions

You can use Tap to Pay or Stripe Terminal to collect:

  • Membership and plan payments

  • Retail transactions (apparel, drinks, supplements, etc.)

  • Drop-in payments

Transactions appear instantly in PushPress Core for accurate reporting.


Stripe Integration and Fees

  • Tap to Pay and Stripe Terminal use Stripe for secure payment processing.

  • Cards added through Tap to Pay can be saved for recurring memberships.

  • During beta, Tap to Pay and Stripe Terminal transactions process at 2.89% + $0.30 per transaction.

  • Standard Core Pro rates will apply after launch.

Troubleshooting

Tap not working on Android:

  • Confirm NFC is enabled in device settings.

  • Ensure your Android device supports Tap to Pay.

  • Restart the Staff App and try again.

Stripe Terminal not connecting:

  • Reopen Settings → Tap on Phone → Connect Terminal and re-pair the device.

  • Check that your Stripe account is active and connected.

Payment not appearing in Core:

  • Refresh the Staff App and confirm the device has an internet connection.

  • Transactions may take a few moments to sync to Core.
