How to Create an Apple Developer Account
Enroll as an Individual or as an Organization?
There is a difference between Individual and Organization accounts.
The Organization route is the recommended option. It takes a little longer because it requires a D-U-N-S number, which although free to get, can be time consuming. This option we will have the most flexibility.
Do not enroll as an individual, there are too many gotchas with this route, here are some of them.
If you already have an individual account, you can transfer/upgrade this to an Organization account. Here are the steps you need to take.
Do I really need an Apple Developer Account?
Yes, it is a requirement of Apple to have your own account if you have an App for your business.
Do I need a D-U-N-S number
Only if you enroll as an organization. Learn how to get a D-U-N-S number here.
Do I need an Apple ID?
Yes, fortunately this part is easy and free! You may already have one for your personal use, but I strongly recommend the apple ID you use is tied to your business email or a new Apple ID just for this purpose. Create a new one here.
Do I need a proper email?
Yes, its a new requirement of the Apple Developer Program to have an email
@yourdomain.com, so now you can't get away with
@gmail.com etc. Fortunately most web hosts provide this feature.
So, do i need a Google Play account too for the Android App?
No, this is one of the few instances where I have something good to say about Android.
How much will an Apple Developer Account cost me?
How long does this process take?
Too long IMO! so start now. It could take up to a month but as quick as a week in some cases... depending on if you already have your D-U-N-S number or not. And if you answer the phone when Apple calls to verify who you are. Yes a real live Apple employee will call you on the phone!!
