Everything You Need to Know About WhatsApp & Connecting to Grow by PushPress

How to set up WhatsApp for new accounts, and how to keep using your existing WhatsApp Business account inside PushPress Grow account.

Written by Dave Yandel

In order to use WhatsApp in PushPress Grow, you will need to ensure that you verify your business inside of Meta (formally Facebook). To learn more about verifying your business in Meta, check out this help article.

To register your business with Meta, you will also need to make sure that the legal business name you supply for verification is displayed on your website. For example, if your website URL is www.yourgymname.com and the legal business name on your official documents shows XYZ Gym, Meta will likely reject this submission. Instead, we suggest that you submit a website edit request to add your legal business name into the footer area of your website. Here is an example:

What Is Coexistence?

Coexistence lets you connect your existing WhatsApp Business App (WABA) to Grow without losing access to the WABA. Once set up, you can send and receive WhatsApp messages from both your WABA and Grow simultaneously — using the same number. This is the right method if you're already actively using the WABA and want to keep using it alongside Grow. The chief advantage is you get the best of both worlds: Group messaging and non-templated initial messages through the WABA, and centralized, workflow support through Grow.

Unsupported Countries

WhatsApp Business account phone numbers from the following countries are not supported:

  • South Africa

  • Nigeria

Limitations

Before choosing Coexistence, be aware of these restrictions:

  • Template messages must be sent from Grow — you cannot send WhatsApp template messages from the WhatsApp Business App itself.

  • Profile management stays in the app — your display name, profile picture, and business info are managed from the WhatsApp Business App, not from Grow.

  • One phone number only — you can connect a maximum of one number under Coexistence. A second number needs the New Number method instead.

  • Unsupported countries — Nigeria and South Africa.

  • If Coexistence isn't available for your number, use the New Number method (below) or BSP Migration instead.

Before You Begin

Make sure you have the following ready before starting setup:

  • Your Facebook account credentials

  • Decide whether you’re connecting the phone number currently active in your WhatsApp Business App (recommended) or connecting a new VOIP number (the one you’ve purchased in Grow)

  • Your device on hand, to scan a QR code partway through

Step-by-Step Setup: Connect Your Existing WhatsApp Business App (Coexistence) - Recommended

  1. Start Signup — Go to Settings > WhatsApp > Connect Your WhatsApp in your Grow account.

  2. Facebook Registration — Follow the on-screen instructions to sign in and authorize via Facebook.

  3. Connect to Grow — Click Continue to proceed with the integration.

  4. Select Onboarding — Choose “Connect your existing WhatsApp Business App,” then tap Next.

  5. Add Phone Number — Enter your current WhatsApp Business phone number and tap Next.

  6. Verify Details — Review your WhatsApp Business Account details and correct anything necessary.

  7. Import Contacts & Chat History — Update your WhatsApp Business App to the latest version first. Look for a message from the official Facebook Business account and scan the QR code when prompted to import contacts and up to 6 months of chat history.

  8. Connect to the Business Platform — Scan the QR code to complete the connection. You can keep using your WhatsApp Business App alongside Grow.

  9. Share Chat History & Contacts — Your contacts and conversations sync securely with Grow.

  10. Review and Confirm — Check all entered details, then click Confirm.

  11. Finish — Your WhatsApp Business App is now fully integrated with Grow. Send a test message to confirm everything works.

Step-by-Step Setup: Connect a New WhatsApp Business Number

If Coexistence isn't available for your number or you'd rather register your new Grow Phone number, follow this path instead.

  1. Purchase a Grow phone number and forward calls from it to your primary contact number.

  2. Go to Settings > WhatsApp > Set Up a New WhatsApp Number.

  3. Click Continue with your Facebook account.

  4. Tap Get Started to begin the integration.

  5. Fill in your business details and click Next.

  6. Select Create WhatsApp Business Account, then Next.

  7. Click Save, then Finish. Your WhatsApp Business Account is now integrated.

  8. Click Add Phone Number and follow the verification steps: choose Phone Call, then enter the 6-digit code.

  9. Your WhatsApp Business number is now verified and ready to use.

Restrictions for WhatsApp Business Sign-Up

Registering with a Grow phone number will mean you can only use WhatsApp Business from within Grow (VOIP numbers cannot be used in the WhatsApp Business App).

As a result, you also won’t be able to do group chats through WhatsApp Business, nor will you be able to reach out for initial conversations without using a template.

How to Link Your Accounts

  • Open the WhatsApp Business app on your mobile device.

    • On Android: Tap More options (three dots).

    • On iPhone: Tap Settings.

  • Navigate to Business Tools > Facebook & Instagram.

  • Tap Facebook > Continue. This opens the Facebook login screen.

  • Enter your Facebook account login details and tap Log In.

  • Select the Facebook Page you want to link and tap Connect WhatsApp.

  • If you don’t already have a Facebook Page, you’ll be prompted to create one.

  • A WhatsApp button will now appear on your Facebook Page.

  • Return to the WhatsApp Business app — your linked Facebook Page will be visible at the top of the Facebook & Instagram screen.

WhatsApp Messaging in Workflows

Ready to add WhatsApp Messaging into your Grow workflow actions? The first step is to submit the “Campaign templates” to Meta for review.

Note: Meta has strict guidelines about sending WhatsApp messages to any contact outside of a 24-hour period. Therefore, when your campaign templates are approved, they should help navigate around this block.

Once they’ve been reviewed and approved, you can insert WhatApp messaging into your workflows following this help article
