Core | How to Charge a Member for a Product (Misc. Charge)

How to charge a member for a retail product, one-time fee, or custom charge directly from their profile in PushPress Core.

Written by Jessica Hamel

Overview

You can charge a member for any product or custom amount directly from their People Profile. This creates an invoice you can collect immediately or leave open to combine multiple items into a single payment — saving on processing fees.

Who can do this: Admin and Staff with billing access

Where: Control Panel → Member Profile → Billing section

How to Create a Charge

Step 1 — Open the member's profile

  1. Log in to PushPress Core.

  2. Search for the member by name, email, or phone.

  3. Open their People Profile.

Step 2 — Create a charge

  1. In the billing section, click Create a Charge.

  2. A new invoice opens.

Step 3 — Add items to the invoice

  1. Click the + button on the invoice.

  2. Select a product or charge type from the list.

  3. Click Add to Invoice.

  4. Repeat to add multiple items to the same invoice.

Step 4 — Collect payment or leave open

Charge now:

  • Select a payment method and complete the transaction.

Leave open:

  • Don't collect yet — the invoice stays in Open status.

  • Add more items later and charge everything at once.

  • Open invoices appear in Payments → Invoices and on the member's profile.

Why Leave an Invoice Open

Stripe charges $0.30 per transaction regardless of how many items are on it. Bundling multiple charges into one invoice means paying that fee once instead of multiple times.

Example: Charging a member for a t-shirt ($25), a water bottle ($15), and a late fee ($10) as three separate transactions costs $0.90 in fixed fees. On one invoice, it's $0.30.

Troubleshooting

I can't find the Create a Charge button

  • Confirm you have billing access permissions for your staff role

  • The button is in the billing section of the profile — scroll down if not immediately visible

The invoice is showing as Open but I want to collect now

  • Click the invoice → select a payment method → collect

I need to add a custom amount not tied to a product

  • Use the charge type list and select a miscellaneous or custom charge option

  • These will appear in the Retail Sales Report under Miscellaneous Sales
