If a member puts their membership on hold but you still want to charge a small monthly fee during the hold period, you can set this up using a separate plan template. This article shows you how to create a hold fee plan and apply it to members.
Step 1: Create a Hold Fee Plan Template
Go to Settings > Plan Templates.
Click New Plan Template.
Name it something clear like "Hold Fee" or "Membership Hold".
Step 2: Configure the Plan Settings
Set the price to whatever monthly hold fee you want to charge.
Set the billing frequency to monthly.
Important: Set Allow Check-ins to No. This prevents the member from checking in to classes while on hold.
Step 3: Apply the Hold Fee to a Member
Open the member's profile.
Pause their current membership.
Add the Hold Fee plan to their account.
Important: When the member is ready to come back, cancel the Hold Fee plan and resume their original membership. Do not forget this step. Otherwise they will be charged both the hold fee and their regular membership.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can the member check in to classes while on the hold fee plan?
No. As long as you set Allow Check-ins to No on the hold fee plan template, they will not be able to check in.
What happens if I forget to cancel the hold fee when the member comes back?
The member will be billed for both their regular membership and the hold fee. Make sure to cancel the hold fee plan before resuming their membership.
Can I set the hold fee to automatically expire?
Yes. When creating the plan template, you can set an end date or a fixed number of billing cycles so it cancels automatically.
