Generally when we think of discounts we think of a discounted price off of the price of the product being purchased.
However, with staff members, there are times it makes more sense to charge a percentage or flat fee over the cost of the product.
In PushPress you can do this by choosing "over cost" in the "Product Discount Type" option when creating or editing a Product Discount.
Creating a discount as "over cost" will apply either a flat amount or a percentage OVER the listed wholesale cost of a product being sold.
To enter the wholesale cost of a product, go to a product and find the wholesale cost of the product options. Enter the cost there.
Example Transactions
Product Y has a price of $20.00. It has a wholesale cost of $12.00. We setup a discount for 10% over cost and sell one to a staff member using this discount. The staff member would pay $12.00 + $1.20 or $13.20 for the product.
Product Z has a price of $20.00. It has a wholesale cost of $12.00. We setup a discount for $3 over cost and sell one to a staff member using this discount. The staff member would pay $12.00 + $3.00 or $15.00 for the product.
Over Cost Discounts with Products with No Wholesale Cost Entered
If you sell a product using a "over cost" discount and the item being sold does not have a cost entered, or the cost is set to 0.00, the system will charge the normal price (no discount).
Over Cost Discounts Which Result In a "Discounted Price" > Normal Price
If you sell a product using a "over cost" discount and the result of the discounted price ends up greater than the normal price of the item, the system will charge the normal price (no discount).
Example: Product X is priced at $10.00. It's wholesale cost is $8.00. Your "over cost" discount is set to 33% over cost. The discounted price would be $8.00 + $2.64 = $10.64. In this case, the system would simply charge $10.00
