Setting up sales tax rates and financial reporting in Core

Updated over a week ago

Accurate sales tax application and reporting are essential for ensuring that you are charging the correct sales tax for services (such as memberships and appointments) and products, and for accurately reporting to your accounting service or local tax authority. Core allows you to configure multiple tax rates based on your specific tax obligations.

Setting Up Your Sales Taxes:

Important: Before setting up your tax settings in Core, verify the exact tax rates you are required to charge and report, based on your location and applicable regulations.

Steps to Set Up Sales Taxes in Core:

  • Navigate to Settings:

    • From your Core dashboard, click on "Settings".

    • Then, click "Settings" again to access the PushPress Core Settings page.

  • Locate Tax Settings:

    • Scroll down to the "Tax Settings" section.

  • Configure Tax Rates:

    • In the Tax Settings section, you can set up multiple tax rates according to the sales tax obligations of your business. Be sure to configure these rates accurately to comply with local laws.

By configuring tax rates correctly, you ensure that you are charging and reporting sales tax appropriately, helping you stay compliant with tax regulations.

  • Select "Add New Tax Rate", Name your tax rate and set the tax rate percentage. Submit to add to your settings. NOTE: Tax rates are not saved into your Core account until you select "Save Changes".

  • Completed tax settings should look like this:

Where can sales tax be applied?

  • Product Sales: The most common sales taxes you'll work with are for product purchases.

  • Services: In some regions/locations, there is a separate tax rate applied to services than goods. Both plans (memberships) and appointments in Core have the option to apply the appropriate tax rate(s).

Sales tax reporting:

Sales tax as well as all financial data reporting can be found in your Core dashboard by going to "Reports" and selecting the "Financial" report; Sales tax is listed in the Financial Details Report.
