How to Use Tap on Phone and Stripe Reader in the Staff App

Tap to Pay lets gyms collect contactless, in-person payments directly through the PushPress Staff App (Kiosk Mode)—no extra hardware required on supported devices. Members can pay for memberships, retail items, or drop-ins by simply tapping their card or mobile wallet.

Tap to Pay works on NFC enabled Android devices and on iPhone.

If your device does not support Tap to Pay, you can still accept payments using a connected Stripe Care Reader.Why use Tap on Phone.

How to Set Up Tap to Pay

  1. Open the PushPress Staff App

  2. Go to Settings → Kiosk Mode → Tap to Pay or Card Reader

  3. Toggle Enable Tap to Pay

  4. Follow the prompts to connect your Stripe account

  5. Confirm your device:

    • iPhone, or

    • Android with NFC enabled, or

    • Connect a Stripe card reader if needed

Once setup is complete, Tap to Pay will be available in Kiosk Mode for retail, memberships, and drop-ins.


Using Tap to Pay on iPhone (iOS)

  • Works on supported iPhones using Tap to Pay on iPhone

  • No external card reader required

  • Members can tap:

    • Contactless cards

    • Apple Pay

    • Other supported mobile wallets

  • Payments are processed securely through Stripe and appear instantly in PushPress Core

Tip: Keep your iPhone unlocked and the Staff App open during checkout.


Using Tap to Pay on Android

  • Requires an Android device with NFC

  • No external card reader required

  • Members can tap:

    • Contactless cards

    • Apple Pay

    • Other supported mobile wallets

  • Payments are processed securely through Stripe and appear instantly in PushPress Core

Tip: Make sure NFC is enabled in your Android device settings before checkout.


Using a Stripe Card Reader (All Devices)

If your device doesn’t support Tap to Pay—or you prefer a physical reader—you can connect a Stripe Terminal.

  1. (M2 Reader only) Register your location in your Stripe account

  2. In the Staff App, go to Settings → Tap to Pay → Connect Terminal

  3. Follow the on-screen pairing steps

  4. Members can tap:

    • Contactless cards

    • Apple Pay

    • Other supported mobile wallets

  • Payments are processed securely through Stripe and appear instantly in PushPress Core.


Supported Transactions

You can collect payments for:

  • Membership and plan purchases

  • Retail items (apparel, drinks, supplements, etc.)

  • Drop-ins

All transactions appear instantly in PushPress Core for reporting and reconciliation.


Stripe Integration & Fees

  • Tap to Pay and Stripe Terminal payments are processed through Stripe

  • Cards collected via Tap to Pay can be saved for recurring memberships

    • Note that Tap to Pay on iPhone incurs an additional $0.10 which is passed on (we don’t tack that on — it’s an Apple fee)

  • Standard Core Free, Pro, Max rates will apply.

Troubleshooting

Tap to Pay not working

  • Confirm your device supports Tap to Pay

  • Ensure NFC is enabled (Android only)

  • Keep the Staff App open and active

  • Restart the Staff App and try again

Stripe Terminal not connecting

  • Go to Settings → Tap to Pay → Connect Terminal and re-pair

  • Confirm your Stripe account is active and connected

Payment not appearing in Core

  • Refresh the Staff App

  • Confirm the device has an internet connection

  • Transactions may take a few moments to sync
